Here’s a guide to finding your ring size, including a printable ring sizer for use at home.
Buying a ring can be a big investment and jewelers want the buyer to have a good experience, especially when purchasing online. Here are some tips to find the best fit for your finger.

Before buying a ring online, measure your finger. It may seem like a straight forward task, but it’s good to take care.
Your ring size is determined by measuring the thickest part of the finger you want the ring for (often the big knuckle). More information can be found here.
Should I go to a jeweler to get my ring size?
Having a jeweler find your ring size is the most accurate, but there are other ways. Going in person is recommended because a professional is taking the measurement and can provide any guidance about buying a ring. Fingers can be unique, and an individual’s hand may have its own variations, so having a professional jeweler size your finger and advise you on getting the right fit can be the best way to go.
Depending on the jeweler, you may have to make an appointment and there may be a fee. Some things to keep in mind while looking for an in-person ring sizing.

Ohh, you sneaky, romantic devil! Well, we are on your side when it comes to popping the question, or you want to surprise your partner with a special gift.
A couple things to keep in mind: generally most women’s average ring sizes are 6 to 8. Most men’s ring sizes are around 10 – 12, but some men just have big hands; I’ve known guys with huge sausage fingers, around size 14 – 16. Fingers tend to be puffier in the morning, so measure later in the day.
Does your partner have a ring or two? If they are taking them off at night, surreptitiously grab one when they are asleep, put it on top of paper and carefully trace the inner circle. Boom, done, and no one will be the wiser.
If the ring-wearer in question never takes the ring off, casually ask if you can take a look at it when they take it off. Quietly take it to where you will be out of sight, trace the inner part, and give it back.
There are other ways to get a ring size, such as saying the recipient’s finger is about the same size as theirs. You want to check their ring size for reference.
